Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, in America's eyes, into the child prodigy category. For a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family these traits came as a natural. Maureen entered the sanctity of family on the 17th of August 1920, in Ranelagh (a suburb in Dublin), Ireland. The mother of Maureen, Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin firm, as well as had shares in the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was an infant and was extremely good at them. The combination of this natural interest and her talent for performing was remarkable. She was awarded nearly every Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance that her country had to provide. At age 14, she had been accepted into the Abbey Theater, where her goal was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
